A mindful and modern life… 🌊🏄🏼

At East Forged HQ we are drawn to those in our community who acknowledge their connection to Mother Earth.

In this month’s blog we chat to Jack Davies or @hold.the.tipple as he’s known on Instagram – an ocean enthusiast, sustainable-living advocate and storyteller, who has added surfing and guitar playing to his list of hobbies in the last few years!

Thanks for being part of our shake, pssssch, POUR movement and community!

1. You are a passionate surfer and openly share how much of a profound impact is has on your life. What is your connection with surfing?

Surfing was the perfect gift that came at just the right time. I've always been a lover of the ocean since a very young age however didn't properly take up surfing until I moved to Sydney around 4 years ago. Surfing is my place of healing, connecting and self-expression. It has been so fundamental in my journey in channeling the newfound sense of passion you get from either cutting down drinking or refraining all together. It's something I am entirely grateful and lucky to be able to do. Whether surfing is your thing or not, there are heaps of ways to connect and benefit from the ocean. Make that connection where you can, and observe the incredibly enriching benefits, both physical and mental.

2. What we love about the stories you share and your view of the world is that it is relatable to anyone aspiring to be a good global citizen. One area that caught our eye is that of sustainable living. What does this mean to you?

Going through a journey of sobriety or even just becoming more sober-curious, creates a new level of consciousness. This to me goes hand-in-hand with adopting a sustainable-living lifestyle. For those who have gone completely sober or completed some period of sobriety will agree that there is an incredible sense of clarity and self-awareness that comes with this. It allows you an opportunity to reflect on how your choices contribute to society.

What does sustainble-living mean for us personally? It's simply making personal decisions and choices based on reducing adverse impact on the natural resources which we are so lucky to have provided to us. Whether its through the choices in the products we use, reducing usuage of single-purpose items or growing your own produce (we're about to move into our new home in a few weeks and a vege patch is high up the agenda once we've moved in!). We (the human race), in our evolution, have become to put it plainly, greedy consumers. The balance between taking and giving back to the natural world over time has become so skewed to the former. Its damaging and some cases killing the world around us and in the large part, we're still completely oblivious to it, despite the countless warning signals of late. I saw a quote the other day which really resonated with me, "the greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it".

There are however some incredible people out there, doing incredible things and we're optimistic that this pandemic is the turning point we all need. It's about making more conscious, informed choices that will benefit both you individually and also the world around you. Although the main purpose of "Hold The Tipple" was to talk all things sobriety, we are incredibly passionate as you can probably tell in this area and will be posting more about what this means and how we can all work towards a more sustainable future. Sorry we could chat about this all day!

3. You learnt guitar recently, amazing??! What would you say to anyone thinking of taking on a new creative endeavour at a point in their life when formal education is finished?

Literally jump straight it, keep an open mind and don't put too much pressure on yourself. When we gave up the booze, we were literally shell shocked with the amount of free time, focus and motivation we had which had previously been hindered by hangovers, drinking benders etc. Whether its a new skill, experience or piece of knowledge, encouraging your creativity to expand and develop gives a real uplifting sense of purpose.

4. You're invited to a party, you can only take one of the East Forged crew with you (Mico🐵 Stay Wondrous | Notsu🐷 Live Connected | Saka😼 Forge an independent life) with you. Who would you take and why?

Ohhhh, good question! It would have to be Notsu! We believe Notsu is our spirit sidekick. Through making the most of the present moment, gracing every situation with optimism and laughter and you would be comfortable Notsu would have your back through the good times and bad.

5. How would you describe our East Forged brews? Who do you think they would appeal and when would you crack one open?

Well they're just uplifting and make you feel good don't they! They have all the benefits of a kombucha without the overwhelming sense of fizziness! We'll let you into a little secret, we were actually pretty skeptic at first, thinking that they weren't for us. Boy, were we wrong! They are incredibly drinkable and well, we find ourselves cracking one open from sunrise to sunset.

Our top pick, must be post-surf, fresh out the water and need a thirst-quenching fix! We are big supporters of the branding and ethos behind East Forged so think they are appealing to any of you health conscious individuals out there who want to broaden the "go-to" beverage options.
